Tonight we are going to a club at ‘Skyscraper’. It is called Skyscraper because it’s the tallest building in the city. I’m pretty sure it’s only a dozen or so stories high. The club is on the top floor.

This is what happens when you have a city without real big buildings.

Here I am at the Adriatic Sea! We went for a short 12km hike around the Slovene Coast and saw a lot of beautiful sights. And at the end we got a bottle of wine!

iPod on the Bus

I took a different bus home tonight and a goofy boy sat across from me. He was listening to his iPod really loudly (IDevenK why people do that, it’s gonna kill yer ears) and I could hear Crystal Castles. I asked him about it and we ended up trading iPods (circa 2005). He immediately went to the Dubstep section of my iPod which I found really entertaining. Maybe I will see him at the Dubstep show tomorrow.

Anyway, this was just a fun interaction I had with a Slovene on the bus. I will try to interact with more on the bus in the future.

This is a package of four 2-litre bottles of wine. That is 8-litres total. It was heavy and I walked 6km to take it home. It cost 7Euro.

Blair’s host Urska invited us to her volleyball class, so the three of us went to play volleyball with some Slovenes. First we started with a warm-up. I believe that ‘warm-up’ means ‘work-out’ in Slovene because we spent half an hour warming up and it was tiring. That may be a part of the reason that a lot of people here are in good shape.

I was really rusty, and Pat said that I was “an embarrassment to America” which was a funny comment, and has become a meme within our group. We played for awhile and it was really fun. I always looked forward to volleyball intramurals in college, so maybe I will try to keep playing in the future, even though I’m not that great.

A lot of Ljubljana’s mythos/culture revolves around dragons. There is the dragon bridge, a few of the sports teams are named The Dragons, many bars and restaurants depict dragons, and there is even a dragon on the flag! This is a painting in the church inside Ljubljana castle. It depicts St. George the dragon slayer, which was always my favorite religious story because it had dragons, and dragons are way more interesting than anything else in the Bible.

Anyway, I am probably going to spend the next few weeks looking for the dragon so that I can slay him and pretend that I am playing Skyrim.

Well, Slovenia fuck you and Janša fuck you even more.

A day or two after I arrived Slovenia (well, the city of Ljubljana I think) voted on allowing gay couples to adopt, and it did not pass.

It’s interesting, from an American perspective, to see such a liberal country, in terms of things like free college education and health care, vote against something like this.

My host works in the tourism office and showed me around the city a bit, primarily the sights in the middle of the city, which was great! Living with such a host is very beneficial.

Pat and Blair and myself met at Premier Pub with our hots, which was fun! I tried the Human Fish Beer which was really flavorful despite it being pretty light. It was nice and relaxing, a great way to end our first day.

Here is my room! Not pictured: the kitchen that I am standing in while taking this photo. Living the dream, via always being within several ~~feet~~ metres of food! It is nice and cozy. The bed lifts up to reveal a storage space which is very smart. It is kinda like camping. I think that is the mentality that I have adopted, that this is a long camping trip, so focus on the great environment and activities rather than where you are sleeping.

One of my hosts made this adorable ashtray. It is in the shape of a penis. Everyone here smokes a lot. I believe that the national sport is ‘smoking cigarettes while drinking beer on a patio at a restaurant’ but I could be wrong.

My host is very nice and likes to tell me things, and I am happy to listen. Will probably be meeting up with the other two interns later to see a bar!

I made a minifigure of myself to document my trip! Note the blue hat, beard, smile, awesome T-Shirt and blue pants. Just like me! I can’t always take pictures of myself doing cool things (or else they would look like MySpace shots) but I can take pictures of my Sig-Fig (A Lego minifigure that looks like yourself).
